Art
What is the curriculum trying to achieve?
Art offers the opportunity to express unique visions of the world. It is valuable in developing an understanding of the importance of visual imagery in the world around us which, in turn, gives students the opportunity to make sense of the world beyond the classroom. Equally, Art creates a culture of inclusivity and offers the opportunity for students from a diverse range of backgrounds to connect with a variety of social and cultural backgrounds – subsequently, allowing students to experience the world around them in a unique way. Experience in the arts develops perception, critical analysis, creativity, processing skills and aesthetic awareness, and appreciation of a variety of cultures and traditions. Knowledge about art (and skills in creating art) are necessary components for any civilisation. Art creates a culture of success and gives students the space to play to their own creative strengths. Our aim is to prepare students to develop an awareness and understanding of pathways into creative industries and become contributing citizens and appreciators of the arts.
How do we organise learning?
Each of our subjects organises learning to achieve our federation vision of ‘Educating today’s students for the world of tomorrow: a seamless education from 4 to 19’. Please click here to see a visual map of students’ planned ‘learning journey’ in art across Key Stage 3, 4 and 5.
