The Downs School has been selected as one of just 132 schools in the country to participate in

research into Generation STEM, a work experience programme developed by CSW Group.

 

Generation STEM aims to improve students’ life skills, such as ability to see the relevance of their school work to their chosen career path.  The National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) was asked to carry out this research to find out whether Generation STEM makes a difference to improving students’ confidence and knowledge.

 

Over the last 10 months, a group of Year 10 students participated in Work Training Sessions in school and undertook interviews with employers. The scheme culminated with six students being selected to undertake work experience placements over the summer break.  Last week, there was a debrief session allowing the now Year 11 students to reflect on their experiences and consider what they had learnt.
