Posted on: 18th NovIn Design and Technology we were lucky enough to receive some fresh mussels from the Food teachers Network. This is part of the ‘Fish for Heros’ programme, where we received free salmon in 2022. The objective is to encourage students to try preparing and cooking foods they might not normally come in contact with.
The rope grown mussels were donated by Offshore shellfish, packed by River Teign Shellfish Ltd and Deliver by DFDS- shipping and logistics.
In our Food lessons today, Year 8 and 9 classes are sampling them (about 25% of the class had not had them before and enjoyed trying them).
Our Y10 Food Preparation and Nutrition class and a group of Y8 and 9 students enjoyed the chance to cook with them today.
We had over 100 students try the mussels today!
