Title: The Downs School in Compton maintains ‘outstanding’ Ofsted
Subtitle: The Downs School & Sixth Form is celebrating an exceptional Ofsted report.
The Compton school scored ‘outstanding’ in all categories except for leadership and management, where it was rated as ‘good’.
The inspector’s report described teacher pupil relationships are “warm and positive” with a “strong sense of community” evident throughout the school.
The report also praised the school’s curriculum, support for disadvantaged pupils, safeguarding measures and for having a “highly successful” sixth form.
Headteacher Chris Prosser said: “This report is a testament to the hard work, dedication and passion of our staff, pupils and community.
“We strive to provide an exceptional education that inspires every student to achieve their best.
“We are thrilled that Ofsted has recognised this and look forward to building on this success.”
To improve further, the report added “the school must ensure that staff use the agreed policies and check this practice robustly” to ensure leaders and governors are clear on the effectiveness of the school’s work.
From September 2024, Ofsted no longer makes an overall effectiveness judgement in inspections of state-funded schools.
The school’s last full inspection was in 2013, when it was judged as ‘outstanding’.
