Year 9 students prepare for GCSE options

Posted on: 17th Dec

Ahead of the GCSE Option process next term, Year 9 students took part in a careers event last week designed to help them start to think about the link between subjects and careers.  Students participated in a Q&A session, with a panel made up of business professionals from different industry sectors, including journalism, engineering and performing arts.  They then had the opportunity to talk to one of the volunteers in a smaller group.

They updated their action plans on Grofar and started GCSE option research using eClips, the two on-line careers packages used by the school.

Students really enjoyed the event. “It was useful speaking to someone that has experience in business,” said one Year 9 pupil. “We got to speak to people from a variety of industries so that you could see what GCSEs helped for what career,” said another. “I found it useful to speak to the people and when we researched the jobs and what we need for them,” another student added.

Careers Leader Penny Allum said; “This was a really good session for the Year 9 students. Choosing GCSE options is a really important part of their studies going forward, and it was good for them to listen to professionals from different careers talking about their experiences and qualifications.”
